=(^..^)=

I am a photographer, video artist, drummer and cyclist in baltimore city. this page is where I post extra personal work, inspirations, and ideas for future projects. my personal website is www.faithbocian.com
A lot has changed in the past month. I had to make a quick, unexpected move to Hamilton. I had a day where I quit my food delivery job and immediately was hired for two the same day, a bike messenger job at Quick Messenger and a photo booth operator for a wedding photography company. My mother bought me a car. My boyfriend up and left to be a messenger in Chicago without telling me until it was too late. I decided I’m going to work to pay off my college debt.
It’s taking a while for me to realize that this is the time that I need to focus on me and no one else. This means no “helping” with other people’s projects, no waiting around for commitment from a man, no more thinking that I’m not good enough for different things. My life so far has proved to myself that I’ve always excelled at the things I put my entire heart into.
What’s left over is my band, my zine, and my book. If there are freelance jobs along the way, then great, but these are things I have to do.
This poster is made my friend Phyllis Zhu for my next show with my band Et Al. I used to play drums in Which Magic and it’s possibly Sara’s last show, Brendan from Weekends is playing his solo stuff, and it’s Amanda’s last show in baltimore. It’s going to be truly magical.
Goodnight everyone, I’ll see you on the streets soon enough.

As some of you may know, I’m the Director of Photography for a video documentary at the moment. It’s about the Baltimore Rock Opera Society’s production of Murdercastle, a tale about H.H. Holmes, the first documented American serial killer.

I love working with this group because they’re all so talented and are very interesting people! We even have our own production crew, included Matt Kelley (director) and Greg Bowen (2nd camera).

The project is on it’s way. I just finished shooting and editing the trailer, which can be seen on the What Weekly website. We just finished our first round of interviews, which is shown in the last photograph. Please check it out and follow our facebook page!

I THINK I’M IN LOVE.

I THINK I’M IN LOVE.

Here are some outtakes while I was shooting with Sarah last week. She’s a badass female messenger. I rode around with her while she was working and she showed me some locations she goes to often. It was slightly overcast and it felt AMAZING. I’ll be shooting with her again in the morning for the 2nd issue of CRANKMANIA. There will be a release party on March 30th, which will include the Baltimore Bridges Alleycat, followed by an after party! AND IT’S ALL FOR THE ZINE so keep a look out for flyers! They were put up around the city over the week.

ALSO if you missed out on the first issue, check out Red Emma’s before they’re all gone!

These photos are from a shoot with Patrick during one of shifts last week at Expedited Courier. He works as an independent contractor for them and he gets called for jobs as he works(for those who are unaware of messenger work). Carrie B did an interview with Pat for CRANKMANIA, and these are some photos I got with him. Look for the interview in the first issue of the zine to learn more about Pat on the job with Expedited.

I started uploading images from my Johannesburg, South Africa trip today. More images can be seen on my website. The trip was definitely an eye opener for me, as well as a learning experience. I also learned about how much I like documenting with my camera, with both stills and video. After years of fine art photography, I may be finally coming on to something.

I am still in the process of writing a proposal for this project, but I am putting photos up anyway. I hope you enjoy them.

Here’s a few images from a larger pool that I’m in the process of editing right now for the first issue of the bike zine! Both are the first shot on the roll, hence the piece of the second photograph sneaking in. I always liked film for this reason, there’s always some sort of surprise waiting for you when the film is processed.

The first image is from the October Alley Cat race in DC, where our own Dan Breuer and Patrick Sudduth placed 1st and 2nd! The second is a photo of Patrick on the light rail when a group of friends and myself were about to ride to Annapolis. Both experiences were loads of fun, and everyone can read about them in the first zine!

All the photos are taken and the last edits are being made! There’s word that a release date is happening mid to late January, so be sure to look out for the release party!

(Also the second issue is already in the works!!)

These photos were taken by Sam Hood in 1934 in Sydney. Inspiration! Goodnight baltimore!

I’ve been working on my website a lot recently and I decided to upload a video that I made in my Video Art class. It’s actually one of my favorite pieces. Here is the brief description of the piece:

Studio Surveillance

With technology advancements, it’s almost impossible not to get recorded by surveillance cameras, or to be tracked by computers, cell phones, credit cards, etc. What we thought was our privacy, is not private. I created a surveillance camera by building a corner shelf for my dv tape camera and I mounted it up near the ceiling, forgetting about it for the night.

Here is where you can see more work on my website.

I met a girl named Kris at a video shoot with Awarehouse Productions over the weekend and she asked me if I wanted to photograph the Baltimore Rock Opera Society (BROS) demo day at the Bell Foundry. I rode my bike with a backpack full of equipment over there today to hang out and shoot these photographs.

The space is now leased to this local theater group and will eventually be used to rehearse for shows.

Details about the BROS as well as a list of events can be found on their website.

Here are some photos from our interview with Ryan Boddy about his home brews. The shoot was for the first issue of Crankmania, baltimore’s newest zine celebrating cycling culture. I’m collaborating with two bike messengers: Carrie (interviews, writing) and Dan (race coverage).

We’re shooting for the release party to be in early to mid January, so keep looking for updates! Also we are accepting donations towards paper and ink supplies. If interested, please email me at faithbocian@gmail.com.

(As I write this at 12am, I’m drinking coffee looking forward to work in the morning.)

OK. All summer I worked an incredibly terrible full-time job in order to afford the Canon 5D Mark II. I have to say that so far, it was more than worth it even though I didn’t have much of a summer, considering that this job made me want to consume way more alcohol then any person should. Now that “that’s” over, let me introduce a few projects that are coming up:

I am shooting a documentary in South Africa and I’m leaving Tuesday the 6th. For a month I’ll be working alongside my Aunt Caroline, who’s been living there for a few years now. She’s working to take down traps that poachers are leaving for Apes. Please wish me the best!

Also, I am starting a bike zine with two messenger friends. The name we chose is Crank Mania. Above are a few sneak peak photos of our first shoot from today. Carrie (seen in the photos) and I did a little Zombie Fix-A-Flat session. We are hoping to release the first issue mid-December, so look out for the release party!

There are MANY things brewing for the fall, including my opening at MARYLAND ART PLACE for the bicycle themed show and a residency in SOUTH AFRICA in November. Stay tuned!!!
